Minneapolis to Minnetonka

Meghan and I decided to take a bike ride today down to a new lake, Lake Minnetonka, from Minneapolis. We thought it would be around 40 miles round trip, but it looks like it may have only been 30+ because of where we ended up at the lake. Either way it was a good ride.

Most of the ride was trail and bike path, but there were some areas that were a little difficult to get through. One of the roads was under construction and had no sidewalk/bike unfortunately. On the way there we stopped for a cousins sub which I still have half of in the fridge.  Once we got there we realized it was a private lake basically and the only dock was for a yacht club. Rich neighborhoods are nice to bike through at night because you don’t have to be afraid of hitting pot holes. On the way back we hit some rain, and very few cyclists out and about.

For future reference, we took the greenway pretty far to Ottawa, and from there headed north on Ottawa toward Minnetonka Blvd. Once there we traveled a few miles or so and noticed a bike path on the left hand side which we switched to as soon as possible. The trail is dirt for most of the way, but no large rocks so riding 700×23 slicks is fine. I did have a tube go out on me on the way there from a thorn, so bring an extra when you go.

Rough idea of the route we took.
